RESTORATION PAINTERS BRISBANE

Yes. If the timber is still in good condition, old weatherboards can often be restored rather than replaced. Where existing paint is heavily built up, peeling or failing, we can strip or remove the deteriorated coatings and properly prepare the timber before repainting. The right approach depends on the condition of the weatherboards and the existing coating system. We assess the surface first and recommend the level of preparation needed rather than automatically stripping everything back to bare timber. For older Brisbane homes and Queenslanders, preserving original weatherboards wherever practical can help retain the character of the home while giving the exterior a properly prepared, long-lasting finish.

Yes. Heritage homes, Queenslanders and character properties are some of the restoration projects we love working on.These homes often require considerably more preparation than a standard repaint, particularly when working with original weatherboards, timber windows and doors, verandahs, decorative features and layers of older coatings. Our heritage restoration work has been recognised by Master Painters Queensland, including a Heritage Restoration win in 2021 and finalist recognition in 2023 and 2025.We approach each home individually, with the aim of preserving its character while providing a durable finish suited to Brisbane conditions.

Yes. Existing aluminium window frames can often be professionally repainted, giving dated windows a completely new look without the cost and disruption of replacing them. The preparation is particularly important. Aluminium requires the correct cleaning, preparation, primers and compatible coating system to achieve proper adhesion and a durable finish. We professionally prepare and spray aluminium windows and frames to achieve a smooth, modern finish. It's a great option when renovating or updating the exterior colour scheme of an existing Brisbane home.

Often, yes — provided the roof itself is in suitable condition.A professional roof restoration can dramatically improve the appearance of a faded or weathered roof while adding a protective new coating system. Our roof restoration process can include high-pressure cleaning, surface preparation, appropriate primers and professional application of a Dulux Acratex roof coating system. Not every roof should simply be recoated, though. The existing roof needs to be assessed first to determine whether restoration is appropriate or whether there are repairs or other issues that need to be addressed.

We don't simply paint over it.Peeling, flaking or failing paint needs to be assessed to determine what's happening underneath. Depending on the surface and condition, preparation may include scraping, sanding, stripping, cleaning and removing unsound coatings before the appropriate primer and paint system is applied. This is particularly important when restoring older Brisbane homes, where there may be multiple generations of paint and different substrates across the property.Proper preparation takes longer, but it's what gives the new coating the best chance of performing as it should.

Older Brisbane and Queenslander homes may contain lead-based paint, particularly on surfaces painted many decades ago.Where lead paint is present or suspected, the preparation method needs to be considered carefully. We can assess the project and determine whether testing or lead-safe preparation and removal procedures are required before restoration work begins. We don't treat an older coating like an ordinary modern repaint — understanding what's already on the surface is an important part of planning the job safely and correctly.

Not every old surface needs to be completely stripped, and stripping paint unnecessarily can add significant time and cost to a restoration. We look at the condition and adhesion of the existing coatings, the substrate underneath, the amount of paint build-up and the type of finish being applied. If the existing coating is sound, thorough preparation and sanding may be appropriate. Where coatings are badly failing, excessively built up or no longer providing a suitable foundation for repainting, more extensive removal or stripping may be recommended. It's one of the reasons we prefer to assess restoration projects individually rather than applying the same preparation specification to every home.

Restoration painting can vary significantly in cost because no two restoration projects require the same amount of preparation.Pricing depends on the condition of the existing surfaces and coatings, the size and accessibility of the property, whether paint stripping or extensive preparation is required, the type of substrate, repairs needed before painting and the coating system being applied.A relatively sound character home requiring a thorough repaint is very different from an older Queenslander with heavily peeling coatings, deteriorated timber and multiple layers of old paint. That's why we prefer to inspect restoration projects before providing a quotation. It allows us to assess what's actually required and provide a clear scope of work based on the condition of your home — rather than guessing from a square-metre rate.

Yes. Original timber windows and doors are often some of the features that give heritage homes and Queenslanders their character, and where practical, they can often be restored rather than replaced.Depending on their condition, restoration may involve removing loose or failing coatings, sanding, filling and repairing minor imperfections, priming exposed timber and applying a suitable protective coating system.Older timber joinery can require significantly more preparation than modern surfaces, particularly where there are multiple layers of old paint or coatings have begun to fail. Our approach is to preserve original features wherever practical while giving the timber the preparation and protection it needs for its next chapter.
